Ehsan Shan's death sentence: where is the evidence?
An anti-terrorism court sentenced Ehsan Shan, a young Christian from Sahiwal, to death in a blasphemy case. On Program 295C, rights activist Luke Victor discusses the forensic report, the appeal and what the verdict means for Pakistani Christians.

Ehsan Shan (Ahsan Masih), a young Christian from Sahiwal, has been sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in a blasphemy case. On BTL TV's programme 295C, host Gasper Daniel spoke about the verdict with human rights activist Luke Victor.
According to Luke Victor, the FIR against Ehsan was registered on 19 August 2023, three days after the Jaranwala incident. It cited sections 295-A and 295-B, section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and section 11 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act; section 295-C was added during the investigation. The allegation was that Ehsan had shared on TikTok the alleged material found in Jaranwala.
Luke Victor said that, according to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency report included in the judgment, no objectionable material was found on Ehsan's mobile phone, and it could not be proven that the TikTok account in question was his. In his view, a death sentence on such weak evidence goes against settled principles of law.
He also said that the court had acquitted the two Christian boys who were first accused in the Jaranwala case, while many of those accused of the arson were released because of weak prosecution.
According to the programme, an appeal against the verdict has been filed in the Lahore High Court. Luke Victor called for an early hearing of constitutional petition 53/2023 on the Jaranwala case, pending in the Supreme Court, and appealed to the Christian community to stand together.
